MICHAEL LYONS, SCULPTOR
(b.1943 – d.2019)
Michael Lyons has exhibited widely since the 60’s and gained an international reputation as a sculptor and lecturer.
When he was not working abroad, he lived and worked in the village of Cawood, Yorkshire, where he maintained a studio for over 40 years.
His work ranges from monumental works in steel, stainless steel, copper and bronze for public sites, both rural and urban, to medium and small-scale pieces for gallery and domestic settings.
He used diverse subject matter including myth, ancient art and cultures, landscape and the forces of nature. Drawing was integral to the development of his ideas. Though abstract, his work exhibits a sense of ‘place’ and is often a response to his surroundings both in the UK and the countries to which he travelled.
